Access Ramps DDA and Equality Act Compliant
We are often asked if our Access Ramps are compliant
The problem with that question is are our Access Ramps compliant with what?
This is due to people thinking a ramp has to be compliant with building regulations which in the 12 years I have been selling ramps for I have never sold an access ramp that does comply.
If people requiring a portable ramp for an existing building wanted a building regs compliant ramp they would be in for quite a shock, 1.5m wide, 1 – 15 gradient, level landings top and bottom, double handrails both sides, 100mm upstands makes it almost impossible.
The old DDA said to make reasonable adjustments and provide auxiliary aids when permanent alterations were impractical.
The only problem with this is the person deciding on whether something is reasonable is a High Court judge on a case by case decision.
So next time you ask if our little 760mm wide, lightweight, portable access ramps which are being used perfectly safely by 1000’s of people are compliant – don’t be offended when we say compliant with what.
