We are often asked if our wheelchair ramps are suitable for home use.

The answer is Yes

Most of the wheelchair ramps we supply are lightweight and compact which makes them idea for home use where they can be set up as and when needed and then simply folded up and stored away when not in use.

The ramp we tend to recommend most for home use are the smaller of the Aerolight Extra range which can be used on a 1:6 gradient when assisted.

As most steps around the home are between 4 and 8 inches it means the most popular size is the AX12 at 4ft long (1.2m)

Available in lengths 2ft – 8ft (0.6m – 2.4m)

Quick and easy to set up

Unique design enables incredible grip

Single fold down lengh of ramp

clips together when folded

contrasting colour edge strip increases visibility

We updated our wheelchair ramps sites the other day to provide information about wheelchair ramp gradients and how steep wheelchair ramps should be.

The CAE (Centre for Accessible Environments) say the maximum gradient for wheelchair ramps is 1:12, with the occasional exception in the case of short, steeper ramps when refitting existing buildings.

The gradient also depends on the going of the flight with longer goings requiring shallower gradients.

The maximun height a single ramp should climb before incorporating a landing/rest area is 500mm which should have a gradient no steeper than 1:20 as the height gets lowwer the ramp can become steeper on a sliding scale with a 330m height requiring a 1:15 gradient and a 150mm height requiring 1:12 gradient wheelchair ramps

It was about this time last year that we sadly had to put up the prices of our wheelchair ramps for the first time in 3 years.

I am pleased to say that due to other cost savings we have made this year we are now in the position that we can reduce the prices of many of our wheelchair ramps back to last years prices.

We have updated the website accordingly, if you do notice any price discrepencies hopefully the lower price will be the correct 1.

We are often approached by owners or estate managers of listed buildings who need to provide wheelchair access but can’t alter the aesthetics of the listed building.

When this happens we tend to recommend lightweight portable wheelchair ramps that can be used as an auxiliary aid, rather than permanent obtrusive ramp systems.

The portable ramps are not ideal, but are generally seen as a reasonable adjustment and provided staff are at hand and the availability of a wheelchair ramp is clearly indicated they are seen as better than nothing.

The portable wheelchair ramps most suitable for listed buildings are usually the Aerolight Extras, as they are lightweight, easy to handle, quick to set up and are nice and compact and fold in half when not in use.

In the past we have tended to just supply the lightweight portable wheelchair ramp despite receiving a fair few enquiries for the modular ramp systems.

With the modular wheelchair ramp improving all the time and now being in a very simple kit form which can be easily put together by anyone, we have decided to update all the information pages about modular ramps and start selling them rather than just sending customers elsewhere when they need a semi permanent wheelchair ramp system.
