Frequently asked questions about ChairMate?
Q: Can ChairMate be used by a single operator?
A: Yes, ChairMate is designed for exactly that. Some other chair manufacturers recommend two operatives basically because their chairs have no brakes and a person is required at the front as well as the back to control the speed of descent.
Q: I see that ChairMate copes with a person in a wheelchair but what about transporting an less able person who is not in a wheelchair?
A: We supply an optional transit wheelchair exactly for that reason.
Q: What is supplied with ChairMate?
A: ChairMate is supplied with retaining straps, a wall fixing kit and instruction manual. Optional dust cover, transit chair and transit chair cover are available at extra cost.
Q: What types of stairs can ChairMate cope with?
A Pretty much any type of stair internal or external providing it is not steeper than 35 degrees. We do not recommend using ChairMate on badly maintained stairs with loose nosings or loosely carpeted stairs.
Q: Do you provide training?
A: Absolutely. Evacuating a person down stairs has potentially lethal consequences if performed by someone who does not know what they are doing so we always insist on operator training when supplying our product. (Please check with your public liability insurers – they will without doubt insist that you do)
We offer “train the trainer” training at your own premises – (there is no point in training in unfamiliar premises). This allows your chosen staff to be trained to a level where they can train other members of staff in your organisation to operator level and carry out refresher training as required. We do not lock you into a training contract, once your trainers are trained we will not re-train unless requested to do so.
Q: Do you offer maintenance?
A: Yes, ChairMate is classed as mechanical equipment and should be safety checked on a regular basis. Unlike other evacuation chairs on the market, ChairMate has a number of moving parts and a braking system, which like a car needs to be maintained.
Q: Do you carry out on site demonstrations?
A: Yes, please contact our sales team on 0845 057 3826 to arrange.
